Adoption guidance

During the Covid-19 pandemic the team at HAWS have been looking for ways to safely re-home cats and kittens, adhering to the government’s advice to maintain a distance of two metres between people. As you can imagine this involves major changes to our usual re-homing process and our volunteers are having to adapt whilst still ensuring that our cats find the right homes. Much of the preliminary re-homing process is being done by telephone or video calls, although we are doing some physical home checks where we are able to access your garden without going through your home. Any conversations will happen at a distance of two metres in the outside space. If the home visit is successful we will explain in detail how you can safely meet our cats

We are still adhering to the catchment areas we cover and the adoption requirements detailed on our website. Re-homing requests have increased enormously in recent months, so please understand that it will take time to organise any adoption. In particular we have been inundated with applications to adopt kittens and we are simply not able to help would-be adopters of kittens who do not have a private garden or who live outside our catchment area.

Thank you everyone for your understanding and support.
