Michael – a local celebrity

Michael did not have a good start in life. He had several “owners” in his first few years and was found abandoned, suffering with painful bladder stones and had not been neutered.
He was rescued by HAWS and had surgery to eliminate the bladder stones but was very poorly afterwards and had to go back to the vet hospital. Thankfully he recovered but then had to spend longer than HAWS would like boarding at a vet practice before he was fostered. All this happened before he was 5 years old!
We met Michael when we took over from his foster carer while she was on holiday. We did not expect to keep him because we have a frail, elderly cat who has been bullied in the past and had decided that he should live out the rest of his days as an only cat.
However, after a settling-in period it soon became clear that Michael has a very gentle nature and does not have an aggressive bone in his body, even after all his bad experiences in early life. So after the two cats were successfully introduced to each other we decided that we would become Michael’s forever home – which was a huge relief because by then it would have been very difficult to part with him!
He has since become quite the local celebrity. He loves exploring the garden and has made friends with the other cats who live either side of us, as well as their owners, and we get regular updates on his antics in the neighbouring gardens.
We cannot imagine life without Michael and his mischievous ways now. He is our “chunky monkey” and we look forward to many years ahead with him as part of our family.
